This idea is for those retirees with grandchildren or for those retirees that have friends with small children. It is an idea for leaving Santa a magic key to get inside the house for those that have a chimney and for those that don't. You use an old key and attach the poem to it using some pretty ribbon. I will put two little poems, one that would go with a house with a chimney and one for a house without a chimney. Santa brings the key inside and either leaves it hanging from the tree or beside the empty cookie plate.
Santa,
We don't have a chimney for you to climb through,
But if you don't visit my house I don't know what I'll do.
Some say you are magic and can use any old key
As long as we hang it out in a place you're sure to see.
So we're leaving this old key right outside our door
Saying our prayers, jumping in bed, and we won't worry anymore.
And the other one for a chimney
Santa,
Tonight in the fireplace a few chestnuts we roasted,
We're afraid in your haste that your tootsies be toasted.
Down the chimney we fear you might come with a bound,
More than ashes and soot we are scared may be found!
With this key and your magic, you kindly old elf,
You can unlock the door without harm to yourself.
After leaving this key just outside our backdoor,
We're all snuggled in bed, and we're worried no more.
In the morning we'll thank you for gifts you left here,
And this key for your safety, we'll keep 'til next year!
